We are often amused by racing headlines, and this is among the latest: “Come see the…. TOPLESS MIDGETS TONIGHT!!!”  The track that posted the headline in their e-flyer, and perhaps elsewhere, shall remain nameless, but we’re acquainted, having visited, and they are among the last folks we would expect to have topless activity of any kind at their track, never mind promote it to the general public. It’s all in good fun of course, as are other such play-on-words headlines. Upon reading, we recalled a father and young son walking up to the wheel fence during a USAC Midget show at Gas City (IN) Speedway several years ago.  The youngster, six or seven in age, said, “Dad, all the drivers look normal to me.”  Our media-cautious side at the time caused us to wonder about such class names and we wondered anew upon seeing this latest midget headline. Do families with children considering their first race raise an eyebrow at the prospect of seeing topless midgets, outlaw dwarves, or other unusually-named racing classes familiar to us? Do such names prompt parents to discard the idea of going to a race for the first time?  We wonder.
