Welcome to Racing Promotion Monthly and the RPM Promoters Workshops

Racing Promotion Monthly (RPM) and the RPM Promoters Workshops are open to anyone who organizes, officiates, promotes, or sponsors racing events.

Through the combination of the RPM Newsletter and the in-person Workshops, our mission is to foster dialogue, share ideas, and build progressive networks that help drive the sport forward.

If you’re involved with a track, sanctioning body, club, or traveling series — or work in any form of motorized entertainment — the Workshops are designed for you. Over the past 53 years, track owners, promoters, employees, marketing representatives, media personnel, officials, and club officers have all benefited from this collaborative platform.

A Legacy of Leadership and Innovation

When Hugh Deery, Nord Krauskopf, Ned Jarrett, and Stew Reamer first gathered promoters in Daytona Beach in 1972, no one knew whether a workshop for promoters could succeed. While there had been smaller, informal gatherings before, that 1972 meeting — not yet called an “RPM Promoters Workshop” — became the foundation for a national movement.

In 1974, Deery and Reamer introduced the first official RPM Promoters Workshops in Riverside, California, and Daytona Beach, Florida. Their vision was ambitious, and their challenges were significant. At the time, promoters viewed each other as competitors, not colleagues. Leading racing organizations and suppliers guarded their turf, and some even tried to prevent the Workshops from taking shape.

But with Stew Reamer and Racing Promotion Monthly as the driving forces, the Workshops endured — and ultimately reshaped the grassroots racing industry. Nearly 50 years later, the value of the RPM concept is undeniable.

Building the Grassroots Racing Community

We call RPM “The Idea Newsletter for Auto Racing Promoters,” and the Workshops “The Networking Place for Short Track Promoters.”

Over the decades, these have become more than slogans — they’re the foundation of an enduring community. As promoters shared ideas, built relationships, and learned from one another, the grassroots racing industry grew stronger.

Today, short track operators collaborate for the benefit of entrants and fans alike, working toward common goals while maintaining healthy competition. The spirit of cooperation that once seemed impossible is now the hallmark of the RPM network.

Wisconsin’s Stewart Doty, a longtime colleague brought in by Reamer, guided RPM through several transitions until his retirement in 2019. His steady leadership carried the Newsletter and Workshops through challenging times and helped shape the format we enjoy today.

A Tight-Knit Community — and a Personal Connection

While RPM has evolved into a digital and national platform, it remains a personal network. The fraternity of promoters is small — barely a thousand nationwide — but it is a dedicated and close-knit group of small business professionals who support one another.

This website serves as RPM’s online home — but more importantly, it’s your connection to real people who understand the challenges and rewards of racing promotion.

If you’d like personal assistance, call Joe Skotnicki, Editor of RPM, directly at 716.880.0110 or email info@racingpromomonthly.com
for a prompt response.

For New and Aspiring Promoters

The short track community is always growing, welcoming new promoters eager to take on the challenge of running a racing facility. Many discover quickly that promotion can be both rewarding and complex.

That’s where the RPM Newsletter and Workshops come in. New promoters consistently find guidance, mentorship, and friendship within the RPM network. At their first Workshop, they meet peers facing similar challenges — sharing ideas, comparing notes, and learning from each other throughout the season.

If you’re preparing to become a promoter, or in your first few years of operation, RPM is your go-to resource for ideas, advice, and a supportive ear.
