About RPM

The Racing Promotion Monthly Newsletter and Workshops is open to anyone who organizes or officiates, promotes or sponsors racing events. Through the outlet of the Newsletter and the in-person experience of the Workshops, it is our goal to create dialogue, ideas and progressive networks of individuals that assist in driving the sport forward. Everyone has something to offer to the Workshops program. If you are a track, sanctioning body, club or a traveling series, involved in any form of motorized entertainment, the Workshops are paramount for you. Track owners, promoters, employees, marketing representatives, media personnel, officials and club officers have all benefitted from the informal and informational Workshops
platform for the past 47 years.

When Hugh Deery, Nord Krauskopf, Ned Jarrett, and Stew Reamer gathered promoters in Daytona Beach in 1972, no one knew whether a workshop for promoters could succeed. There were earlier informal gatherings of promoters, but the 1972 Daytona meeting, not yet named an “RPM Promoters Workshop,” was the first national promoters gathering. Deery and Reamer came back in 1974 with the first “RPM Promoters Workshops” at Riverside, California, and Daytona Beach. Today, it’s difficult to appreciate the obstacles they overcame establishing the Workshops. Promoters of the day considered colleagues adversaries, and promoters, leading racing organizations, and industry suppliers, protected their turf jealously. Some tried to prevent the development of the Workshops, but Reamer, with Racing Promotion Monthly, as the driving force, persevered. Now, almost 50 years later, everyone understands how valuable the Workshops are to grassroots racing.

We call RPM “The Idea Newsletter for Auto Racing Promoters,” and the Workshops “The Networking Place for Short Track Promoters,” and as you look over this website you will understand why. Over the past four decades, as promoters shared expertise and ideas, and made connections with colleagues a robust grassroots racing industry grew. Promoters now work together for entrants and fans, improving racing and revenue at short tracks. The rivalries of the free market remain, but short track racing people now separate their special interests from the greater good and work to common goals, largely because of the Workshops. Now, with RPM, promoters celebrate what they have in common, instead of where they differ.
Wisconsin's Stewart Doty, a colleague brought along by Stewart Reamer, guided the Newsletter and Workshops through several transitions until his retirement in 2019. Doty, persevered through several challenging times to bring the Newsletter and Workshops near it/s current format.

As you navigate this website, remember that the fraternity of promoters is small, numbering barely a thousand, and that despite the faceless nature of the World Wide Web, this is your portal to a tight-knit community of small business people who stand ready to work with you. This website is RPM’s Web presence, but more important, it is your portal to personal service and support. Click around, but remember that personal service is a phone call away (716.880.0110) where Joe Skotnicki, the editor of RPM, will answer and assist. Or, you can email info@racingprromomonthly.com, and receive a prompt response. We look forward to assisting you.

For Promotional Newcomers

The short track community continually welcomes new promoters, passionate people eager for the challenge of track operation. Some find promotion bewildering, not what they expected. But, seasoned promoters stand ready to become friends, advisers, and mentors. They remember their early challenges, and the difficulty of finding answers when they began. They remember discovering Racing Promotion Monthly and attending their first Workshop where they found promoters with similar operations sharing ideas and networking, lending a hand. They found colleagues they could compare notes with throughout the season. If you’re soon to become a promoter, or in your first season or two, the RPM Newsletter and the Workshops are your resource, your “go-to” for ideas, advice and a sympathetic ear.

Set aside time to attend an RPM Promoters Workshop next winter and opt in now at the right to read Racing Promotion Monthly and receive monthly updates.
